Senior Vice President & Regional Manager – Permian

Newt Newton joined SM Energy Company in December 2006 as the general manager for the Midland office. From June 2007 until 2010, he served as regional vice president for the Midland-based Permian region.

Mr. Newton began his career in 1979 with ARCO and held positions of increasing responsibility in Engineering, Operations and Business Development. In 2000, ARCO was purchased by BP. Mr. Newton elected to resign as vice president of Engineering and Operations at ARCO Permian to form Westwin Energy, a privately held E&P company focused on the Permian Basin. After selling Westwin Energy in early 2003, Mr. Newton joined PURE Resources, a subsidiary of Unocal, as vice president of Business Development. In September 2005, Unocal was acquired by Chevron and he worked as the project manager to transition a large resource play into Chevron’s Mid-Continent Business Unit. He was promoted to senior vice president in 2010.

Mr. Newton is an active volunteer in the Midland community. He earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Texas Tech University and is a registered Professional Engineer. He is an active member of SPE.
