Employee Engagement and Connection
We believe that engagement and transparency with our employees is an important part of our culture. Quarterly, our senior management hosts a town hall, led by our CEO and CFO, which includes updates on business performance, charitable activities, and safety and environmental performance, as well as highlights key achievements and individuals. Town hall meetings include Q&A with executive leadership where employees enjoy engaging with the team on macro topics, strategic direction, operational results, technology improvements, and various areas of interest. Additionally, throughout the year, officers make ad hoc trips to different field offices to engage with employees to hear firsthand how things are going.
Overall, we’ve established a positive work environment that promotes our culture and long-term vision, and helps our employees thrive. To keep a pulse on employee thoughts and sentiments, we solicit employee feedback through a bi-annual, anonymous employee engagement survey that includes a variety of topics. Our better than 85% response rates are a testimony to how invested employees are in the success of the company. Our most recent survey indicated employee engagement at 77% and showcased particularly high scores in key areas, such as trust in senior leaders; senior leaders have created a culture of health and safety; employee trust in the executive leaders and the direction of the company; employee pride in the company; employee line of sight to the strategic direction of the company; and employee empowerment.
Helping employees connect with one another is never more important than now, when work is accomplished in different ways and from so many different locations. Teams and work groups make a concerted effort to gather in person for training, collaboration, volunteer efforts, and socializing. Across the organization, there are countless opportunities for employees to get together, socialize and connect, whether it’s to gather at the weekly company-sponsored breakfast, to play a board game at lunch with coworkers, or to join colleagues for yoga in the exercise facility. SM Energy makes connection a priority.
